Dr. Vella is an expert in all aspects of hand, wrist and elbow conditions and has distinguished himself in the areas of carpal tunnel syndrome, treatment of tendonitis, fracture care, traumatic reconstruction, arthritis and tendon transfers. He has served as consultant for professional athletes including NFL, MLB, NBA, WPGA, Phoenix Roadrunners and collegiate athletes of all types.
He is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and carries the Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Surgery of the Hand, which is for Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeons who have demonstrated qualifications in hand surgery beyond those expected of other Orthopaedic Surgeons by virtue of additional training and a practice characterized by volume and diversity of cases in hand surgery or have made significant contributions to this field.

Josh Vella, MD completed his fellowship in hand surgery at the renowned Indiana Hand Center and brings the newest innovations in hand surgery to the Phoenix area. He served as a clinical investigator for national research regarding Xiaflex (collagenase) treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture. He annually attends national conferences to incorporate the latest innovations into his practice.

About Josh Vella, MD
Your Surgeon as an Artist
When Dr. Vella is not in the office, he enjoys spending time as an artist. His drawings and paintings have won awards earlier in his life and he now enjoys this as a hobby. Abstract paintings have become his latest endeavor. The artist within Dr. Vella is displayed during his surgical procedures. He was recognized during his training as having advanced surgical skill when compared to his peers. He believes his artistic background was part of his advanced skill.
Although human anatomy is very similar, the ability to see and appreciate that everyone is different and notice the subtleties in an individual’s anatomy allows Dr. Vella to provide his artistic surgical skill to his patients.
Dr. Vella’s motivation and purpose all relate to 2 main things, his passion for his art, which is manifested by providing his surgical skill to his patients and supporting and leading his family in the most loving and compassionate way.
